BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville Port of Entry intercepted a load of alleged heroin at the Gateway International Bridge. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $58,500, hidden within the articles carried by a male traveler attempting entry into the United States through the pedestrian lane.
“Our officers take their responsibility to protect our borders very seriously and did an excellent job in intercepting these dangerous narcotics,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry. “This drug seizure is the result of our officers’ vigilance and experience.”

The seizure took place on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Gateway International Bridge when a 26-year-old male Mexican citizen who resides in Matamoros, Mexico, applied for entry into the United States through the pedestrian lane and was referred to CBP secondary for further examination. During the examination, CBP officers discovered two packages hidden within the articles carried by the traveler. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 2.58 pounds of alleged heroin with an estimated street value of $58,500.
CBP officers seized the narcotics, arrested the traveler, and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
